Service-Learning Course Designation for Student Transcripts

The service-learning course designation for student transcripts was approved by Faculty Council last semester.  We now need to begin the process of approving courses for the designation for the fall 2015 semester.  Any faculty member who would like to have a course designated “academic service-learning” on a student’s transcript should submit a completed cover sheet, a course syllabus, and any other materials that demonstrate that the course meets the published criteria to his or her curriculum and planning or other appropriate committee of the division, unit or college.  That committee will then forward the cover sheet, syllabus and any other materials to the Academic Community Service-Learning Advisory Board for approval of the service-learning component only; the faculty subcommittee of the advisory board will be the deliberative body that makes the decisions.

To assist faculty in preparing the service-learning component of the syllabus, information sessions will be held at the following times:

If would like to attend an information session, but none of these dates work for you, please contact Arlene Dowshen (aldowshen@widener.edu).

The deadline for submitting courses for the fall 2015 semester is November 28, 2014.  All necessary documents can be found on Campus Cruiser in the Faculty Resources Committee in shared files (Academic Service Learning/Service-Learning Course Designation on Student Transcripts); a sample course syllabus will be posted there soon.  Please make sure that a completed coversheet is included with the materials submitted and that the syllabus and/or other materials meet the listed criteria.

The documents are also available on the righthand side of this page.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Arlene Dowshen (aldowshen@widener.edu) or Dr. Stuart Eimer (speimer@widener.edu
