Awards ranging from $500 to $1,000 (with total annual funding not to exceed $2,500) will be made annually to support undergraduate student-led Chester-focused projects developed in collaboration with a Chester community partner to meet community needs.

Widener is now accepting applications for the Pride Service Site Leaders Scholarship Program for current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Students commit to 160 hours of service and leadership each year in exchange for an annual $1500 scholarship applied towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

Widener is now accepting applications for the PSC/Bonner program for current freshman and sophomore Widener students. Students in the program commit to 300 hours of service and leadership trainings each year in exchange for an annual $5,000 scholarship applied towards tuition for up to 8 semesters.

When Janelle Rouse decided switch majors and transfer to another college, she looked for a school that offered her new major and encouraged service and civic engagement. What she didn’t expect when she transferred Widener University in Chester, Pa. was the leadership opportunities she would have. The sophomore special education from Washington, D.C. was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Character Education Partnership, a national organization committed to developing civic virtue and moral character in America’s youth.

Five years ago, the Widener chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB) set out on a mission to bring electricity to a small village in Panama. This March, the students completed that mission – as they were finally able to flip a switch and see light in Ella Drua for the first time.

Campus Compact has honored 181 students from 36 states as 2013 Newman Civic Fellows. Among the honorees is Widener University junior Melvin Holmes of Yeadon, Pa. The Newman Civic Fellow Awards recognize inspiring college student leaders who have worked to find solutions for challenges facing their communities.
