Meet Janet Riley-Ford, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Chester
Janet Riley-Ford is the Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Chester and an alumna of Widener University’s Master of Social Work program. The Boys & Girls Club is a recreational center, meeting place for other nonprofits, and a place where youth can learn and grow as individuals through technology, sports, the arts, gardening, and other educational programming. It served more than 1,000 children last year with member programs, partner programs and special events.

Looking Back to Move Forward: A Documentary Film about the City of Chester

Two Widener Communications Studies students (Kirsten Chu. ‘15 and Michael Michvech, ‘15) wrote, filmed, edited, produced, and directed this documentary for their senior project, as they wanted to tell a story that highlights the exciting developments taking place in Chester, especially in culture and the arts.  Chu and Michvech became involved in Chester through the Chester Made project, a participatory urban planning process facilitated by the Pennsylvania Humanities Coun

Awards ranging from $500 to $1,000 (with total annual funding not to exceed $2,500) will be made annually to support undergraduate student-led Chester-focused projects developed in collaboration with a Chester community partner to meet community needs.

Founders Hall Certified as Widener’s First Green Building
Founders Hall at Widener University is now certified “green” by the U.S. Green Building Council and becomes the first building at Widener, and the first in the city of Chester, to receive that official recognition.

Former Superintendent Named Principal of Widener Partnership Charter School
The Widener Partnership Charter School, Pennsylvania’s first university-based charter school, on Tuesday announced Darlene G. Davis as the new principal and chief executive officer. Davis will lead the groundbreaking school based at Widener University as it completes its middle school expansion through eighth grade this fall.
