Description & History

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region serves Cumberland, Dauphin, Lebanon and Perry Counties. We provide children facing adversity with professionally supported one to one mentors.

All volunteers are screened and interviewed prior to acceptance as a mentor into our organization. We ask our volunteers for a minimum one year commitment. Children and their families are interviewed in order to make an appropriate match.  Our one to one matches are made based on compatibility.

We have two programs from which to choose. Site Based Mentoring is where volunteers spend time with a Little at a partnering organization’s site or school. Community Based Mentoring is where volunteers spend time with their Littles 2-4 times a month doing low to no cost activities in the community.  These matches are professionally supported for the life of the match with Match Support Specialist who remains in regular contact with Bigs, Littles and Parents/Guardians.
