Description & History

The Chester Higher Education Council (CHEC) is a nonprofit organization formed by the presidents of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, Delaware County Community College, Neumann College, Penn State Brandywine, Swarthmore College, and Widener University. CHEC was established to address the ed- ucational needs of county residents. Their first major initiative was the College Access Center of Delaware County (CACDC), located on Widener’s campus in Chester, PA.

The CACDC provides free college preparation services to high school students and adults, with plans to expand services to middle school students in the near future. Services range from college and career awareness, study skills development, tutoring, mentoring, and assisting high school seniors and their parents with the college financial aid process.

Our center is equipped with a computer laboratory and resource room for residents to research a broad range of higher education opportunities and compete online applications and financial aid forms. It also includes space for group and individual advising and workshops.
