Organization Overview: Let’s Get Ready (LGR) envisions a future when students from all socioeconomic backgrounds have the support they need to attain a college education. Through an innovative program model that stands apart from other college access and success programs, LGR serves more than 13,000 students annually from Philadelphia to Maine, and engages more than 150 college students as paid near-peer coaches, most of whom are former participants in the program. There is no nomination process or academic requirements for participation in Let’s Get Ready programs. Any student who expresses interest is eligible for services, with students from low-income backgrounds or who are first-generation-to-college given priority. Overall, 89% of LGR students are students of color, 80% are eligible for free or reduced price lunch, and 71% are the first in their family to attend college. All components of the organization’s programs are designed with this population and the requisite cultural competence in mind. 

 

Position Overview: The Virtual Access Instructor position is a paid, part-time internship for current undergraduate college students (preferred) and graduate college students. Reporting to a Program Manager, Virtual Access Instructors are responsible for effectively teaching SAT prep lessons virtually and helping students understand concepts and test-taking strategies. Full training, curriculum, and supervision provided.

 

Position Responsibilities: Ensure a meaningful and productive program experience for students.

 

  • Prepare for and deliver engaging math and/or verbal SAT test-prep instruction virtually to groups of high school students using our SAT curriculum

  • Build a warm and welcoming virtual classroom environment

  • Demonstrate virtual classroom management skills, including navigating between whole-group instruction and small-group and individual support

  • Attend required training (pre-program and ongoing) and weekly group supervision meetings

 

Instructors must also attend virtual training on February 9 and February 10, prior to program launch.  

Requirements

Let’s Get Ready seeks individuals committed to supporting high school students achieve their college goals. Candidates should:

  • Be a current undergraduate student (preferred) or graduate student

  • Have a high level of comfort/expertise with SAT Reading/Writing or SAT Math content 

  • Must have a schedule that allows for teaching classes at the same time for duration of program (10 weeks)

  • Demonstrate commitment to diversity, inclusion, and educational equity.

  • Have a passion for supporting student success, with a specific interest in and comfort with working with high school students in underserved communities.

  • Have access to a computer with a webcam, mic, and a reliable internet connection (with at least 100 Mbps download and 100 Mbps upload speed) for virtual instruction.

  • Have exceptional communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.

  • Be comfortable working independently and dependently in a virtual environment.

  • Reside in the Mid-Atlantic (Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania) or New England (Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont) regions for the Spring 2022 program term.
